A Real Psychic's Crystal Ball Gazing Tutorial.
The pop culture image of a woman most times with oracle cards and spirit boards, dressed in vaguely Gypsy attire, tarot card in hand, draped in jewelry, and third eye gawking into a smoky quartz gazing ball is at least a couple of centuries old. Her all-knowing look hints at a future secret she is reading and is about to reveal that will help change the life of her client forever. It is a literary, as well as cinematic, cliché used and reused to the point of becoming a joke.
But is it all just a silly show? Not quite. The art of gaining mystical insight through gazing onto a reflective surface such as in mirrors or crystal balls is a divination practice that has been around for millennia.
Be it a flame, a pond, a water basin, a so-called black mirror (basically a piece of glass painted black), or a crystal sphere - it has all served the mystic and the seer well in taking a peek behind the veil to catch a glimpse of things to come. Given the assumption that you are interested in giving crystal ball gazing a go yourself, this quick tutorial on how to use a crystal ball provides the basics that you need to know.
1) Acquire a crystal ball
For crystal ball gazing a sphere of 8cm to 11cm in diameter serves best, preferably a large one without flaws or marks. Natural amethyst and smoky quartz may look extremely beautiful, but a clear, handcrafted alternative will provide a better "blank canvas" for your intuition. Find yours in your local new age store, neighborhood market, or online via eBay or Amazon.
2) Cleanse the crystal ball
Cleanse and consecrate it as you see fit and it's ready for gazing. Some methods are: To leave your crystals out in the moon light for the night. Take your ball to the ocean and submerge for a period of time, say 20 mins to an hour or two. Pack your crystal in sea salt at home, leave overnight. Just hold the orb in both hands while in meditation and visualize white light filling and cleansing the ball. Grounding it by placing it in the earth is another option. Do anything that feels right to you in cleansing and consecrating your crystal ball. There is no set way. It is more about the positive energy you feel when using it.
3) Place ball in a distraction free zone
In order to avoid all intrusions and distractions, a calm and quiet time of day (or night) will prove a good choice and give you an opportunity to fully devote yourself to practicing your craft. Close the curtains to avoid reflection from the sun in the crystal and have only a dim light illuminating your surroundings. Burn some incense if it helps you set a calm mood. A black or a dark purple cloth can serve to hold the sphere and, again, cause minimal visual distraction.
4) Calm your mind
Start by warming up and getting into your meditative space, setting the tone for what you will be doing. The trick to scrying (or crystal gazing) is to relax into a state of psychic resonance, making your mind as clear from unwanted thoughts and sensations as possible, having it serve as a receptor to any messages that you may be able to receive.
5) Scrying / Gazing
To be a crystal gazer you will need to concentrate but don't allow yourself to tense up. Remain calm and relaxed, keep your focus but also keep an open mind. In the beginning, don't exert yourself too much and keep the sessions short (five minutes at first, and never go beyond half an hour), and if you are not successful, put the ball away and try again another time.
When you are ready, open your eyes and gaze over the surface of your scrying instrument. Your focus should shift past the surface to a point somewhere beyond the surface. This may or may not work for you, but it is the best way to shift your focus for scrying. Have you ever looked at those pictures that are completely composed of colored dots or splotches and had to look past the surface to see the three-dimensional image in the picture? It is the same principle used here for scrying.
Now imagine a small cloud-like vision appearing in the center of the orb, almost emanating a pale blue light. Focus on it and allow your subconscious to bring forth images from a higher source. Try to keep your mind blank, open to whatever may be shown to you, unless you are scrying for the answer to a specific question. Your eyes will want to blink. That is all right, let them blink and regain your shift in focus. Note that, along with visual stimuli, other feelings of claircognizance might arise so be sure to pay attention and keep your clair-senses alert.
Images may come to you in any number of forms. Some may be full images, even moving pictures as though you are watching a movie. That is not common, however, especially when you are first beginning. At first, you may only get a cloud or mist. This may eventually part to allow images to come through, or it may just move in one direction or another in answer to yes or no questions.
If you do see images, they may be simple symbols left open for interpretation. These symbols usually mean something to you and are not necessarily the symbols you may find written in related books. For instance, a dog may generally symbolize loyalty or protection, but if you were traumatized at some point in your life by a dog attack, it could mean something entirely different to you.
6) Take notes
Don't forget to use a psychic journal and write down any visions, images, sounds or sensations that should appear during your practice when following this tutorial. As no matter what you notice now, it may have more significance to events when reviewed at a later time. Just like any other discipline, scientific or spiritual, the more you do, the better you become at it. Take your time, be persistent, and results will come.
